Tonen Corporation General Sekiyu K.K.
1939 Established under national policy as a manufacturer of aviation fuel and lubricants for the military.  
1941 Wakayama Refinery established.  
1944 Shimizu Refinery established.  
1947 General Sekiyu K.K. established and started importing / exporting and marketing petroleum products.
1949 Affiliation agreement concluded with Standard Vacuum Oil Company (predecessor of ExxonMobil). Company designated as an oil refining and supply company.
1950
  • Reopening of Wakayama Refinery and Shimizu Refinery after repair of war damage.
  • Stock listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
 
1952 Contract concluded with Standard Vacuum Oil Company for supply and consignment sales of petroleum products.
1953 Stock listed on Tokyo Stock Exchange.
1960 Tonen Chemical Corporation (100% subsidiary) established.  
1962 Kawasaki Refinery established.  
1965 Sakai Refinery established.
1972Equity participation in Kygnus Sekiyu K.K. Equity participation in Nansei Sekiyu K.K.
1984 Formed an alliance with Esso Sekiyu K.K. for joint delivery operations by tank truck and the consolidation of oil terminals.
1987 Shut down of refining operations at Shimizu Refinery and conversion to terminal.  
1988 Introduction of first membership card in Japanese oil business
1999 
  • Concluded Mutual Consignment Contract with Esso Sekiyu K.K. and Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K. for product shipping.
  • Concluded Mutual Services Provision Agreement with Esso Sekiyu K.K.
2000 TonenGeneral Sekiyu K.K. formed.
  • Conclued service agreements with ExxonMobil Business Services Private Ltd., ExxonMobil Marketing Services Private Ltd., Esso Sekiyu Private Ltd. and Mobil Sekiyu Private Ltd.
2002Consolidation of Esso Sekiyu Private Ltd., Mobil Sekiyu Private Ltd., ExxonMobil Marketing Services Private Ltd., and ExxonMobil Business Services Private Ltd. to form ExxonMobil Y.K. (entrustment of sales and administrative operations to ExxonMobil Y.K.)
2004Transfer of equity holdings in Kygnus Sekiyu K.K. to San-ai Sekiyu K.K.
2008 Sold all shares in Nansei Sekiyu Kabushiki Kaisha to Petrobras International Braspetro B.V.
2010 Establishment of Toray Tonen Specialty Separator G.K. (50% ownership) through a contribution by Toray Industries, Inc. into Tonen Specialty Godo Kaisha, a wholly owned subsidiary
